Opening of the Braille and Mobility Workshop 2020

Really enjoyed the opening of the 2020 Braille, Orientation and Mobility Workshop at Pusat Bahagia in Kampung Pulaie. I was invited by the Health Promotion Centre of Ministry of Health to share with senior citizens of Kuala Beliat about healthy eye habits and awareness of common yet important conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy. I also shared the progress and findings of the World Health Organisations’ Vision 2020 Report. 

The 5 day workshop comprises government and private sector staff; volunteers; NGO members; parents and individuals and aims to increase exposure to the visually impaired and help community members learn the proper and safe way to guide the differently-abled in daily activities. The workshop was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Department of Community Development, JAPEM with the cooperation of the Special Needs Services Section; Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education; Ophthalmology Department, Ministry of Health; and the Special Religious Education Unit, Ministry of Religious Affairs. 

The workshop was officiated by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari. Also present was Dayang Doctor Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
