I recently took part in a leadership talk at Maktab Duli, organised by Shaun Hoon from Curious Mind as part of the Future Leaders Academy (FLY) Program. Designed to shape tomorrow’s leaders with real-world wisdom, the broader program spanned multiple colleges and universities. 

An engaged group of students joined the session, which Shaun facilitated with a focus on openness and thoughtful discussion. The students asked often direct and poignant questions, many of which explored the relationship between leadership, values and personal conviction.

One of the points I shared was the idea that to go against the current, you need currency. In other words, standing firm in challenging situations requires substance, credibility and clarity of purpose. We also spoke about how leadership often shows itself in difficult moments, and how one of the clearest signs of strong leadership is the loyalty it inspires in others.

It was a meaningful exchange of ideas. I appreciated the opportunity to connect with students who showed genuine curiosity, critical thinking and a willingness to question assumptions.
