Community Workshop on Braille and Mobility
Proud to be a part of this collaboration between Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health (Ophthalmology Dept), Ministry of Education (Special Educations Unit) and Brunei Darussalam National Association for the Blind (BDNAB).
The event raises awareness on visual impairment and braille as a means to gain valuable education through reading. Participants are shown how to type in braille, experience walking blindfolded and given instruction on guiding those with visual impairment.
Guest of honour was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Honorary Major General (B) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin. Also present were YB Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash’ari; President of BDNAB, Awang Muhammad Hamzi bin Omar and Acting Director of JAPEM, Dayang Rostinah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Sura Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Tahir and volunteers from UTB.
The Braille, Orientation and Mobility workshop is divided into five sessions throughout April to October, with the first session being held for 15 days from 8 to 27 April. The workshop attracted a total of 52 participants comprising students, parents, government officials and teachers.
