CHAT-Circle Equality & Empowerment Workshop

Jan 20, 2019

Ever been to an equality and empowerment workshop? CHAT Circle is a complete one-day workshop that provides activities and discussion on a range of issues in the ASEAN region.

Gender equality is one of the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. It highlights the importance of women and girls’ empowerment as essential to expand economic growth, promote social development and enhance business performance.

The first workshop was held on Sunday and I participated as a mentor alongside programme leaders with UN Women training.

The event was organised by Faizul Ibrahim, Nur Atikah Daud, Shila Malek and John from the Collective Art Events, supported by the Canada Fund for Local initiatives.

Acting High Commissioner for Canada, Lee-Anne Hermann and Public Affairs Officer, Leng May were also present to give opening remarks and exchange ideas with participants.

The workshop followed the UN’s Change-maker’s Toolkit to create an open yet structured session that educates communities on gender issues in the ASEAN region. Wider discussion included the creative scene, culture and women empowerment in Brunei.
